Tier's Comments:     -     I tie this in the following order:

Tying tips:
Wings: Tie wings in spent position. You can tie them back over the "abdomen" for a more realistic fly, but this doesn't float as well as when tied spent. The fish don't seem to mind either way.
Legs: Knot the pheasant tail fibres with a simple overhand knot to suggest the joints in the legs. Tie 4 pointing backwards, 2 pointing forwards. (I you feel like cheating you can buy pre-knotted legs!)
Put a couple of turns of silk immediately infront of the front legs to stop them interfering with your whip finish, and so that they don't get in the way when you are tying the fly onto your leader.

Fishing the fly.
Use plenty of floatant to keep the fly bouyant. It lands on the water with an outrageous "splat", but the trout love it when they have acquired a taste for the naturals from August onwards - sometimes even earlier.
